about this forum

Theme “Knowledge, Information and Data in Open Access Society”

This International Forum will include the 18th International Conference on Asia-Pacific Digital Libraries (ICADL 2016) and the Asia-Pacific Forum of Information Schools (APIS). Open Access is widely recognized as a key concept for the progress of the networked information society – Open Science, Open Government, Open Data, etc. This forum is aimed to discuss novel technologies, sciences and services of Knowledge, Information and Data (KID) in the Open Access Society and build human networks for KID research, education and services.

ICADL is one of the major international conferences dedicated to digital library research – JCDL, TPDL and ICADL based in North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific, respectively. Since the first conference in Hong Kong in 1998, ICADL has been hosted in many countries in Asia-Pacific – Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. The ICADL series has been supported by many scholars based at information schools in Asia-Pacific and other parts of the world.

The International Forum 2016 will include the Asia-Pacific Forum of Information Schools (APIS) to promote exchange and collaboration among information schools in Asia-Pacific. APIS will include a doctoral consortium, workshops, panel discussions and meetings for students and faculties from Information Schools in the Asia-Pacific region. APIS is the first collaborative event by consortia – Asia-Pacific chapter of the iSchools organization (AP-iSchools) and Consortium of information Schools in Asia-Pacific (CiSAP). This international forum will provide excellent opportunities for students, researchers and professors where participants not only can present and learn the cutting edge of technologies, sciences and services for KID but also they can engage in collaborative activities and exchange with each other for future collaboration. This forum invites scholars and students from any information schools whatever their name – e.g. Library and Information Science, Information Management, Information Technologies, Information Systems, etc. It also will welcome people who are engaged in other consortia in related fields.

Tsukuba is the Japanese science city with many well-known research institutes, and also a convenient place, with direct access to both Tokyo and Narita airport just in one hour.
